Safe Sun Beds

We humans have a natural desire to embrace the sun and feel its warmth on our skin. The sun is vitally important to all life on our planet. Our very skin types have evolved as a response to how much sun was available to us. Our skin lightening in order to accept more sun as we migrated to less sunny locations. In this way, as well as through the tanning process, our skin uses pigment to naturally moderate our UV intake, allowing just enough UV to penetrate our skin.

Like most things in life, the benefits of UV exposure are most profound when combined with exercise and a healthy diet. In fact, studies have shown that UV exposure nearly doubles many of the beneficial effects of exercise. Moderate tanning is the best way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks of either too much or too little exposure.

T2 chooses top of the line equipment to achieve this. We pride ourselves on maintaining our equipment at its absolute peak of performance, paying extra attention to detail and cutting no corners.

• Our bulbs are top of the line - Cosmedico are the best bulbs on the market. Failing to change lamps regularly can lead to a 50% reduction in performance, so although manufacturers recommend changing every 700 operating hours, we change our lamps every 500.

• Proper wiring, exact and constant voltage and current - these are essential to equipment performance. We select only equipment with oversize wires and do whatever is necessary to keep incoming power consistent.

• Our advanced electronic starters increase performance by 30%.

• Proper cooling is important not only for your own personal comfort, but for the upkeep and performance of the equipment. Our machines have internal filters to insure proper airflow and cooling. The equipment is designed to operate around 75°F, and we maintain this temperature in the salon year round.

• We routinely clean the lamps and the inside of the acrylic to remove particle buildup and prevent interference between your body and the UV

How to prevent Tan Lines

Under arms -  If you find you are getting white areas under your arms, try putting your arms over your head for half of your session. Using a stand-up unit with its overhead handles every third session will help as well.

Lines under buttocks - This can be caused by the weight of your body folding your skin under while you lie down. Try lifting your legs one at a time, in the classic sunbathing position, for half of the session each. Use of the stand-up every third tan also eliminates this problem.

Pressure points - Pressure points can develop under your shoulder blades or on your tailbone as a result of the lack of bloodflow to these areas when you are lying down. To tan over these spots, try using the standup every third visit, or shifting your weight side to side a few times while using the lie-down.

Under chin - This can be caused by tilting your head downward during the session. If you are in a bed, use the thick part of the pillow under your neck so you head is leaning slightly backward, exposing more of your neck. If you are in the stand-up, try to point your head directly forward or slightly toward the ceiling.

Around eyes - Never tan without eyewear. If you find you get lines from goggles, try using Winkies. Winkies can be adjusted to fit your eye exactly. They stick slightly to your skin so can be used in a stand-up unit.

Maximising Tanning

Properly prepped and moisturized skin will accept the tanning process more readily and produce more dramatic results. Exfoliate once a week, drink lots of water, and use indoor tanning lotions religiously.

Tan every other day - You must tan often enough to darken and maintain your tan, but leave recovery time in between to allow your skin to prepare for the next tan, too often can actually slow your tanning progress.

Rotate indoor lotions - Try not to get hung up on one lotion. Your skin will respond more dramatically to the different ingredients found in our indoor lotions if you rotate them from visit to visit.

Use after-tan lotion - Everybody, no matter their skin type, should moisturise their skin daily, especially after tanning. Our after-tan lotion, helps long after your session is over, and prolongs the life of your tan.

Try tanning vitamins - Tanning Supplements truly produce dramatic results. The ingredients boost tanning performance, while antioxidants give the tools your body needs to rejuvenate your skin and keep it youthful.
