My mother taught me that ANYTHING in excess can kill. Eating (through obesity and heart disease), Drinking (through throat cancers and kidney failures). Travelling to fast, even too much exercise can kill. Tanning is no different. Go out in the sun or in a sun bed and burn yourself and yes you could get skin cancer. So...

Avoid Mistakes

Use eyewear - Always use eye protection. The skin of your eyelid is very thin, and the UV that passes through is damaging to your eye itself.

Remove makeup - If your makeup contains any SPF, it is best to remove it or you may not tan evenly.

Use lotion - Tanning lotions moisturise, protect & help your tan - use them every time! Especially on shaved legs.

Don't tan too frequently - We recommend tanning every other day at the most to avoid a premature plateau.

Don't count on clothing to protect you - UV can travel right through many materials like cotton. So don’t go out in a hot sun after using a bed and think its ok. Clothes only provide protection equal to SPF 15.

Don't use outdoor lotions indoors - Outdoor lotions usually contain SPF, which you do not want when indoor tanning. Our machines already filter the UV to minimize burning, so extra SPF can virtually negate the session.

Don't "burn first" - Don't make the mistake of thinking that you have to burn before you can tan. UV damage (IG3)can actually slow your tanning process and is totally unrelated to production of a tan.

T2 is not about taking your money, our beds only go up to 15 minutes and the computer will stop staff from letting you tan too long. SAFE TANNING is about short regular periods of tanning that enhance your look and boost your health. If you have time, walk down the corridors of Heartlands Hospital. In it you will see photo’s of people of all ages being told to sit outside in the sun with a silver dish to boost their vitamin D and health. Below are 15 facts - proven ways that safe tanning helps your body.

Boosts Fertility — The Sun reduces Melatonin (which suppresses fertility), so it is more likely you'll conceive in summer, sunlight makes you more fertile for longer.

Gives you More Energy — Melatonin also regulates sleep, so having lower levels of this hormone in your body gives you more get up and go.

Eases IBD — People with Crohn's disease or IBD generally have low levels of vitamin D according to several studies. Sunlight is the best way to boost vitamin D in these cases.

Beats Period Problems — About one in five women of childbearing age suffer from polycystic ovary disease which causes abnormal periods, unwanted body hair and infertility.

Helps Skin Conditions — Sun exposure can help to heal such skin conditions as psoriasis, acne and eczema. Regular controlled sun exposure is often prescribed for sufferers.

Boosts your Immune System —  Sunlight encourages the production of white blood cells, which help to boost your immune system and fight infection.

Helps you Lose Weight — Higher levels of Serotonin in our bodies not only makes you feel happy but it also suppresses the appetite, so you'll eat less in warmer weather.

It Cheers You Up — Sunshine boosts levels of Serotonin - the body's natural happy hormone.

Reduces Heart Disease — A BMJ study showed that people in the UK are more likely to die of heart disease in winter than in summer because of low levels of vitamin D.

Prevents diabetes — A Finnish study found children given a Vitamin D supplement for several years had an 80% reduced risk of Type I diabetes as young adults.

Beats SAD — Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) - is a depression specifically caused by lack of sunlight. Lightboxes and sun beds can be used to treat it.

Helps prevent MS — Scientists have noted that exposure to sunlight in childhood appears to dramatically reduce the risk of developing this disease in later life.

Prevents Cavities—A dental study found the prevalence of cavities was 3 times greater in children from Scotland, the North-West than South of the UK.

Relieves Aches & Pains — Sunlight helps to warm the body's muscles and eases stiffness, reducing the pain caused by inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Reduces risk of Cancers — Although over exposure to the sun increases your risk of skin cancer, vitamin D provided by sunlight can actually help to significantly reduce your risk of other types of cancer.

Remember -  A good tan is a SAFE TAN.
